Did Someone Say Pre-Season?

After the vintage performance of the U21s ended the footballing season, it was only right that someone pick up that mantle. On pure entertainment value, GPR always throws its hat in the ring, and today was a good indication that we may well end up on TV, albeit probably You’ve Been Framed over Sky Sports.
The game started with Bedfont on the front foot, putting pressure on the back line with long, direct runs. But the boys rallied with quick counter attacks and after 10 minutes Rory was rolling back the months with a well placed shot that stuck in the corner of the net. Shortly after, he was in again to make it 2-0 to the travelling side.
However, our unique approach to defending set pieces came undone when an innocuous corner was allowed to curl into the side netting to make it 2-1. But Arran’s darting pace and quick feet saw him finally convert one of the many chances he fashioned for himself. Unfortunately his ACL went halfway through the second half - hope you’re back on your feet soon mate.
The game went back and forth, going to 4-3 at HT as Rory netted his hat trick and we let in a couple of dodgy deflections. We were feeling good and it was great to see the black and blue shirt back in action. The second half slowed down in intensity, but a change in tactics for Bedfont allowed them to get on top. With 20 minutes to go we were a goal down, owing to some dubious man marking tactics on our side.
But the boys rallied well, as debutant Sina’s pressure on the CB got us level. Ant then selfishly ignored three free players before smacking it into the bottom corner, silly sausage. Then a nervy final 10 minutes ensued, with the home team putting real pressure on the keeper who, tragically, was beaten at the death with a whipped effort into the corner of the goal. 6-6.
The final whistle blew and, as it is, we’re doing a warm down with pints and a debrief in the clubhouse as we couldn’t be bothered with penalties. You love to see it.
